There are cheaper ways around photography, like having someone you know who wants to build their portfolio do it cheaply, or even getting your guests to take photos. But if you want quality photography, it really is best to hire a wedding photographer. Photographers can do all types of style for you, so you don't have only one option when it comes to photography. Some photographers use a documentary style, others might do more formal portraits, and some will take a fun approach to capture your day.
Videography
For some couples, photography is enough. However, others want to have a video recording of their special day. You might choose to record just the ceremony or have someone filming you throughout the celebrations. If you choose to use a videographer, they can create a wedding video in lots of different styles. From documentary style to cinematic videography, you can choose something that works for you and captures your wedding in the way that you want. A guestbook is a fairly traditional way to ask your guests to leave their mark on your day. They can write you a short message, and you'll be able to look at the book whenever you want. You can also get creative, though, and explore some other options that serve the same purpose. Your guests could write down individual notes and post them in a box for you, which you could open after the wedding or perhaps in a year or two. You could also ask them to write on something a little sturdier than paper, like a wooden shape, which they could then drop into a frame or box.
Ask the Guests to Get Creative
There are lots of creative things that your guests could do to help make memories for your wedding. Maybe you could ask them to sketch each other or the bridal party during the ceremony. You could give each table at the reception some craft supplies to make something or even set up a craft area so everyone can drop by if they want to. You could ask them to fill a jar with messages, record a video or even invent a cocktail for the occasion. Think of things that you can keep, but also items that your guests can take home as their own keepsakes.
Immortalize Your Outfit in a Fun Way
You can spend a lot of money on a wedding dress, and that's before you even get to the shoes and accessories. But when you only wear it for one day, what do you do with it next? Some women simply put it away in a box, perhaps hoping to pass it down as an heirloom. Others sometimes dye or otherwise change their dress so they can wear it again. Even if you decide not to keep your dress, there are some fun ways to make a keepsake so you can have a reminder of it. You could take an impression from the fabric of your dress and have it turned into a charm that you can wear on your jewellery. This works especially well for a lacy dress. Or you could do something similar with your wedding bouquet, having a charm made of one of the flowers.
Guest Photography
Hiring a professional wedding photographer is a must, but it's also fun to get your guests involved. You can ask them to take their own photos and make sure they share them online or give them to you at a later date. Or you could go old-school and get some disposable cameras that everyone could have fun with. Another possibility is having a photo booth, which everyone can have fun with. You could either get a traditional photo booth or set up a larger space where everyone can play with props, and larger groups can take photos together.
Preserve Your Wedding Vows
Your wedding vows can be one of the most beautiful parts of the day, but you don't want to forget them once your wedding is over. As well as recording the ceremony, you might want to consider turning your vows into a special memory in another way. You could write them down or print them to turn them into a beautiful piece of art. You could have them printed on fabric, which could become clothing or an item for your home. Or you might even consider putting some words from your vows on some jewellery, either engraved or stamped.
Reuse Some Decorations
Some wedding decorations probably won't last long. Others are sturdier and could be used more than once, so you don't have to get rid of them. If you have any decorations that you like, why not use them again in your home or elsewhere? Of course, you don't have to take everything. If you've bought candle holders for 20 tables, you might not want to keep them all. However, you could take one or two as keepsakes, and either sell or give away the rest. Your guests might even like to take some decorations home.
Document Your Wedding Online
Using the internet is also a super fun way to document your wedding in the modern age. Your guests can not only post photos but also make comments and post videos too. There are a few ways you could encourage everyone to share online. While your guests are likely to post some things online anyway, you might want them to try and keep most things in one place. You could have a hashtag that they can use on Instagram and other networks to make it easier for you to see everything. You could also use a wedding app that your guests can download, like Wedding Snap. The app compiles your guests' photos in an online album that you can view anywhere and in real-time.
Make Something of Your Wedding Song
Did you pick an especially important song for your first dance, the ceremony or any other point in your wedding? You could create a special memory by using the song. You can do something with the lyrics or even the music itself. Turn the lyrics into a beautiful print (you can find lots of people to do this on Etsy and elsewhere) or perhaps have the musical notes turned into artwork. You could print the lyrics onto something you can use at home, like a cushion or even have it engraved into a table. There are endless possibilities.
