Life isn’t always easy. We have to work long hours; we sometimes have to go long periods without seeing our friends or family, our bills can sometimes feel overwhelming, and so on. When life begins to feel a little too much, we want to ensure that we have a place that can pick us back up and again, and what better place than our home? By making our house a more enjoyable place to be, we’ll always have that relaxing retreat to return to. Below, we take a look at some of the ways in which you can make your home a happier place to be. Let’s go!

Natural Lighting

Did you know that spending time in the outdoors can have a profoundly positive impact on our happiness levels? It’s true. Just 15 minutes of sunlight can be enough to make us feel happier and more positive about life. Now, we can’t always take a drive out into the country to get our fix, so wouldn’t it be great if we could bring that sunlight directly into our homes? Well, perhaps we can! By making sure your home is optimised to receive all the sunshine that the UK receives, you’ll have a bright and happy home that’s as good as the outdoors.

A Green Oasis

Of course, there’s more to the outdoors than sunlight. There’s also, you know, all of those plants and trees! While you’ll be hard-pressed to have a chestnut tree in your home, it’s more than possible to fill your home with homegrown plants using hydroponics. Studies have shown that having plants in our homes deliver a whole range of benefits, including reducing our levels of stress and boosting our mood. And, of course, they’re fun to look after and make the home look extra beautiful. Win, win, win!

Living Without Tech

Technology is a good thing, but only to that point. Once that point has been crossed, it becomes more of a hazard, something that can seriously compromise our mood and anxiety levels. As such, why not look at creating a tech-free house (which means no internet, not no refrigerator…)? It’s not as difficult as it sounds. If you really can’t do without your internet fix, then endeavour to create just one room - perhaps the living room or bedroom - where you switch off the devices and unplug.

Relaxing Spaces

Many of our homes look appealing but actually aren’t all that hot on the comfort levels. So let’s change that. Dedicate one room to relaxation, ignoring the style of the space for a moment. Fill it with pillows, throws, books, music players, and anything else that’ll help you to access that relaxed state of mind.

Work on the Outdoors

And don’t forget the garden! When the good weather arrives, you’ll love having an outdoor space that allows you to spend long days reading under a beating sun. Add a BBQ, and you’ll be able to host those outdoor dining evenings with your friends and family. What could be happier than that?
