Help me out here gals...I have decided I don't like this teak look of this unit! Infact I don't think I like this unit FULLSTOP! Eek! What it has got going for it though...is that it does have alot of storage space...which I have filled to the brim!
...I am a Happy shabby chic gal at heart...and the brown is just not doing it for me!....so lets have a vote...
Should I keep it and paint it or
replace it with a lovely old painted dresser that I have in storage?
I think I already know the answer ;)
but I would like some imput pleeeeze.

Paint cures anything! Love all of the travel trailers!
ReplyDeleteSadly, I do not think paint can cure this piece, not even with your skill happy!
ReplyDeleteI vote you get rid and make room for the dresser...I would always vote for shabby old dressers!

Ha! While I think it's a nice piece, with or without the paint! You should definitely get rid of it and use what you already have. :)
ReplyDeleteI actually really love it and think it should be painted! It would look really cute painted pink or sky blue...its very kitsch! I Love it!
ReplyDeleteHi there i really think the lovely old painted dresser should come out of hiding.:).

Put out the lovely dresser and give/sell/loan this to someone who feels the love. Not me, I add hastily!
ReplyDeleteok...heres my vision...Find some retro like wallpaper....For the doors and drawer fronts...paint the rest a funky color to match....I love this site

just needs a lovely lick of shabby white or even blue>? could be quite lovely after that, but then im always painting brown furniture ;0)x like the idea of your dresser though- does seem a waste in storage x
ReplyDeleteAh, now I rather like it, but would possibly/probably cover the fronts with patterned paper. Bold retro patterns. Then the teak is only on the surfaces. Yes I'd do that.
ReplyDeleteI think the unit looks like it has found its little place in your home already and looks like it fits there nicely. But in true shabby chic style painting it with white, pale blue or pink would do it justice me thinks. Bee x
ReplyDeletei think you should keep n paint it...
ReplyDeletei have never seen any one painted red... why don't you?
PAINT!

Oh please don't paint such a beautiful piece of furniture, sell it or pass it on to someone who would appreciate it as it is.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your dresser from storage would look great and store all of your beautiful items just as well.
Always the dresser for me!!
ReplyDelete-x-
You could try painting it and see what you think, then if you still don't like it then get rid and use the other one in storage. Either way I'm sure you will make the right decision xxx P.S I am still loving that picture hanging on the wall it's gorgeous xxx
ReplyDeleteTeak furniture reminds me of my 50s childhood in a dull Midlands town. I vote paint!
ReplyDeleteIf its honesty you want then that teak is vile, painted old dresser every time xxxxxxx Put the teak unit on Ebay - someone will love it :)
ReplyDeleteA darling painted dresser will win out every time. Honestly this poor modern piece is out of place in your gorgeous home. Follow your heart...
ReplyDeleteI love the sound of the painted dresser, but then I can see that unit looking fab painted up with retro wallpaper on the doors!
ReplyDeletepaint and paper chuck xx
ReplyDeleteI love this 60's teak side board and if I lived near you, I would be begging you for it, if you were throwing it out, trends come and go, but well made furniture is just so and I love it xxx p.s I have a 60's house, lots of 60s stuff , including a teak side board xxxx
ReplyDeleteI vote for the dresser! I don't think that paint will help this one!
ReplyDeleteid get out the painted dresser i think it would show off your things so much better .. i find teak furniture just a touch depressing!!

Please don't paint it. It is a very cute mid-century piece. If you don't like it, sell it or give it to someone who loves it. But PLEASE don't paint it.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you the teak has to go and get out of storage something you think will work better.
ReplyDeleteGo for it ... paint it!

Hi, the lovely old dresser sounds v. nice, but your little teak unit is a good piece. Id paint it, also how about taking the door on the left off to see what that looks like (you never know you may fall in love with it yet!)
ReplyDeleteI think I would get the dresser out of storage if it's already to your liking :)
ReplyDeleteBee happy x
Have a delicious day!
Whilst I think it might be 'sensible' to use the dresser in storage, I'm VERY curious to see how you'd give this a makeover - could be very inspiring for those of us who don't have something in storage!(or your imagination!!) How's that for a challenge!!!!! I so love all and everything you do. Might have to get a caravan for my son to live in when he visits from Uni now!!! thanks! ps just a thought: could we see a pic of the dresser in storage? xxx
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure paint will do it because of the shape of it. An you might end up with a unit you hate just painted! Dresser it is!xxx
ReplyDeleteI think you shouild keep it and paint it AND glue some vintage wallpaper to the doors and drawer fronts!
ReplyDeleteI love the dresser and definitely think you should get some retro wallpaper and cover the drawer fronts as someone else suggested. Maybe paint it too. Take a look at this teak chest of drawers https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-T4LoJbs69Qo/TdlP3gpqKCI/AAAAAAAAarw/yWoiRTR-7IE/s512/teakogtapet_110522-5.jpg in this blog post http://norskeinteriorblogger.blogspot.com/2011/05/loppedilla.html (norweigian)
ReplyDeleteI think paint it a nice pastel pink or green and use some pretty wallpaper on drawer fronts and on the background of the shelves. I think if you had paper on the cupboard doors you'd need to just cut a neat rectangle and have it in the middle of the door with a couple of inches "boarder" around it.
ReplyDeleteI'd also be tempted to jazz the handles up, not sure how as I don't know if you can take them off but painting the lip around the handles in another colour could be cute :)
I would paint the drawers and the top left cupboard door and leave the rest. Maybe use 2 or 3 different colours? You could even wallpaper or paint behind the shelves too. I know what you mean about the teak though. I usually love teak but this piece has a darker colour. Good luck with the transformation anyway, can't wait to see the finished result! xx
ReplyDeleteIf you want my opinion...the piece is actually pretty neat (mid-century modern) and some people decorate in that style...don't paint it! Sell it and find another shabby style piece with lines that work with your sense of happy.
ReplyDeleteI looove when furniture is painted. There is a world of possibility in it.
ReplyDeleteThe dresser in storage!
ReplyDeleteI just love your blog!!!! I just put your I love polka dots link on mine. ( which is the first time I figured this out)
ReplyDeleteI'm learning this blog stuff, but I am slow at it. I think yours is wonderful!!! Thanks for sharing
It's a cute little cupboard & would be greatly improved with some paint. However if you have something you love, that could take it's place, I'd go for it. Mind you I'd still find another spot for this one repainted. :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Teak furniture is ugly. A paint job and new hardware for the handles, if possible would be awesome! Or you could paint a Union Jack on one of the larger surfaces ... just my 2 cents worth!
ReplyDeleteIts crying out to be removed of its boring teak colour and some paint, paint makes everything look good as long as the colour is good! :P
ReplyDeleteOh would look good in off white/cream with some patterned paper on the back of the shelves...and some new handles or paint the handles another colour.
